We are proud of our association with Entergy Corporation, not only because they support what we do in our 10 Parishes, but also because they are the premier company in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that supports Economic Development. Entergy has Regional Directors who work with us on marketing to companies who may expand within Louisiana or from outside Louisiana into our beautiful state.

Entergy sponsored the development of the first and only state-owned mega site in our Region and built the website the state Department of Economic Development uses to post our sites and buildings to. The number of hits the site gets is phenominal and come from all over the world. This site was gifted to the state to improve the marketing abilities as well as the marketing opportunities of each Regional Economic Development Organization. We have been strong beneficiaries of Entergy’s efforts.

Our Region is less populous than other Regions. But our educational resources, job opportunities and efforts to bring in more is strong. There are a hosts of organizations helping to make it a reality. We are all in Economic Development: The Mayors, the Councils, the Chambers, the Workforce Investment Boards, the Planning Districts and the local economic developers in a few of our Parishes, like Kay King in Morehouse, Jon McKinney in Union, Sam Sheppard in Franklin. This year we lost Ryan Chappel of Caldwell, a tireless worker.

But the cernter piece of working with our organization on calls, conferences, assistance with marketing materials and professionalism is Entergy Corporation. Entergy leaders also serve our community with strong involvement in the organizations that touch economic development.

We are proud of this well-deserved recognition and want our readers to know.

Riddlebarger, Carter Discuss Entergy’s Low-income Customer Initiatives in Louisiana

Working with elected officials to support legislation that focuses on the needs of low-income customers is a priority for Patty Riddlebarger, Entergy’s vice president of corporate social responsibility.

Riddlebarger met with Rep. Carter of Louisiana’s second congressional district to discuss relief initiatives for low-income customers.

During her latest meeting with U.S. Representative Troy Carter of Louisiana’s second congressional district, the conversation centered on initiatives that are critical in providing relief for low-income customers in Louisiana, many of whom are struggling with financial impacts related to the ongoing pandemic and severe weather events. The second congressional district comprises nearly all of the city of New Orleans and stretches west and north to Baton Rouge.

“As a former member of the New Orleans City Council Utilities Committee, Representative Carter was very familiar with many of the issues and challenges our low-income customers face, such as rental assistance,” Riddlebarger said. “He expressed concern about the challenges that various parishes and agencies were experiencing in getting rental assistance funds to customers in need.”

Riddlebarger and Carter also discussed the vital role that the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program plays in providing utility bill-payment assistance for customers experiencing financial hardships. As a long-time advocate of LIHEAP, Entergy has been working with peer utilities to increase LIHEAP cooling assistance funds for warm-weather states, where extreme heat poses health hazards for many vulnerable residents.

“Representative Carter pledged his assistance for LIHEAP and was interested in learning more about Entergy’s efforts to expand relief for residents in Louisiana and throughout our four-state service area,” she said. “We plan to meet again in coming months to review the status of low-income initiatives and work together to secure more resources for individuals and families in need.”

For more than 100 years, Entergy has powered life in our communities through strategic philanthropy, volunteerism and advocacy. The company secured nearly $300 million in LIHEAP funding for low-income customers and helped them pay more than 1 million utility bills over the past five years. Entergy’s corporate social responsibility initiatives help create and sustain thriving communities, position the company for sustainable growth and are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

NEW ORLEANS – As crews continue to work on restoring service to customers affected by Hurricane Ida, Entergy Corporation employees are teaming up with nonprofits and partners both local and from across the country to help those who have been impacted.

Entergy today announced a $1.25 million commitment in shareholder contributions to help nonprofit partners provide disaster relief and assistance with rebuilding and recovery. This includes $250,000 in pre-disaster funding that will enable the American Red Cross to continue providing help with food, water and shelter for customers.

Entergy will work closely with local nonprofit partners and parish leaders to determine how the company’s support can best be used to meet immediate needs while also aiding with longer-term recovery.

“Restoring power to our communities is the first step in helping get our communities back on their feet,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “To be a true partner we need to ensure we’re helping our customers in every way possible. This is just us doing what’s right for the communities we live in and serve.”

Partnering with Our Communities in Recovery

At Entergy Louisiana, we understand our communities have been put to the test over the past few months. Hurricane Ida left in its wake unprecedented damage to our homes, businesses and way of life. This has left many in our state to shoulder the burdens and stress of restoration and recovery following a storm of this magnitude.

We see it as our guiding principle to help support our customers every step of the way, especially when they need us most. We don’t want to see our services, which are a cornerstone in the return to normalcy, serve as a roadblock to the recovery efforts.

For many in our state, particularly in the hardest-hit areas, resources are falling short. But please know that we’re doing everything we can to make sure you continue receiving safe, reliable and affordable electric and gas services. We’ve created a customer assistance plan to aid customers who may find themselves behind, including:

  • Deferred Payment Arrangement – Customers experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic are eligible to take up to 12 months to pay their current bill and/or unpaid balances.
  • Waiving of late fees for all customers impacted during the storm.

We’ve also enhanced our bill payment options. Those seeking to make payment arrangements can now do so at any time through our upgraded phone system by calling 1-800-ENTERGY, or via our online portal, myEntergy, and our Entergy mobile app continues to provide a one-stop option for all payment needs.

We’re encouraging customers to use those options before reaching out to a representative to save time. Also, we’re continuing to offer existing tools like Pick-A-Date, Auto Pay, Analyze My Bill, among others, as a way to help customers manage their bills. To learn more about those tools and options, please visit these pages:

Although many in our state find themselves in a financial bind, we encourage anyone who can pay their monthly bills to continue doing so to make certain they do not fall behind and to avoid the potential loss of service in the future.

There are also additional bill payment assistance programs that can help. The federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income households meet their home energy costs by making payments on a customer’s behalf directly to energy suppliers. Additionally, there’s also The Power to Care, which helps seniors and customers with disabilities pay their utility bills.

We’re all going through this process together. Entergy Louisiana is only as strong as the communities we serve and together, we can ensure that our state rebuilds more resilient than ever before.

Delivering Electricity at Affordable Rates for Our Customers

Entergy’s utility operating companies provide electricity at some of the lowest rates in the country to retail customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. According to a recent study by S&P Global Market Intelligence, Entergy utilities once again ranked among the lowest average retail rates in the United States.

Having competitive energy rates creates several advantages for everyone. Low rates help drive economic growth across our region, which leads to more prosperous communities. In addition, having low electricity rates gives Entergy more flexibility to innovate, deploy new technologies and develop tailored solutions for our customers.

These low energy rates can mean big savings for businesses looking to relocate or expand in the Entergy region. The combination of low rates, a diverse fuel mix, reliability and energy efficiency can significantly lower operational costs for large power users, such as manufacturing facilities, data centers and petrochemical distribution terminals.

We strive to maintain affordable rates through:

  • Fuel efficiency – Investing in modern electric generating facilities that use less fuel to deliver power to customers.
  • Investments in new technology – Expanding cost-effective innovations and growing a clean generating fleet.
  • Continuous improvement – Enhancing power plants and processes to drive greater efficiency and lower costs.
  • Energy efficiency – Providing customers with tools and resources to inform and help manage their energy usage, which protects the environment and could lead to lower monthly bills.
  • New products and services – Offering customers additional flexibility and innovative solutions to meet their energy needs.
  • Expanding customer base – Making energy more affordable for everyone by growing the region’s energy consumers.

For customers who need help paying their electric bills, we have online resources available to assist them. The Power to Care program provides emergency bill-payment assistance to low-income, elderly and disabled customers. We are also involved in advocacy for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, ensuring funds are allocated to help our most vulnerable customers.

“At Entergy, we understand that we are responsible for much more than delivering electricity, especially during uncertain times,” said David Ellis, Entergy’s chief customer officer. “While the challenges we all faced in 2020 created unexpected hardships for our customers and communities, Entergy responded by driving economic development last year.
