CenterPoint Energy
CenterPoint Energy operates two interstate natural gas pipelines, one intrastate pipeline and gas gathering and processing facilities. The company also provides operating and technical services and remote data monitoring and communications services.
The two interstate pipelines, CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission (CEGT) Company and CenterPoint Energy-Mississippi River Transmission (MRT) Corporation, together form one of the largest natural gas pipelines in the mid-continent United States. With 8,100 miles of pipe, our interstate pipeline operations transport approximately 1.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas each year and serve customers in Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
CEGT and MRT also own and operate six storage facilities with combined daily delivery of 1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) and working gas capacity of about 59 Bcf.
When the 172-mile Carthage to Perryville pipeline became operational May 1, 2007, it began providing market access for growing production in east Texas and north Louisiana through interconnects with pipelines serving the east coast, midwest and southeast markets. Phase 1 of the pipeline had a capacity of nearly 1 Bcf per day. Phase II, which went into service in the summer of 2007, expanded the pipeline capacity to 1.2 Bcf per day. Phase III, completed in the spring of 2008, expanded the pipeline capacity to 1.5 Bcf per day.
The Southeast Supply Header is a joint project of CEGT and Spectra Energy. The 270-mile pipeline, currently under construction, will have approximately 1 Bcf of capacity per day starting at CEGT’s Perryville Hub in Northeast Louisiana to Spectra Energy’s partially-owned affiliate pipeline, Gulfstream Natural Gas System near Mobile County, Ala. The Southeast Supply Header will allow customers to access the growing production from natural gas basins in East Texas and North Louisiana to provide an important alternative onshore natural gas supply source for markets in the Southeast and Northeast. The pipeline has 95 percent of capacity already sold to affiliates of Florida Power & Light, Progress Energy, Southern Company, Tampa Electric and EOG Resources.
