Catahoula sits in the center of five parishes – Franklin Parish (north); Tensas Parish (northeast); Concordia Parish (east); Avoyelles Parish (south) and LaSalle Parish (west). The parish seat is Harrisonburg which sits on the Ouachita River. According to census data, the parish has no metropolitan areas. Jonesville, once called Troy, is the largest town in Catahoula Parish and is located on the site of Ancient Anilco, an Indian village landscaped with mounds. Catahoula Parish is known for its natural beauty – hills, the prairie and lakes Tew and Larto.
