LIDEA offers Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Development Course
Entrepreneurship and small businesses are critical sources of new jobs to the local economy. New technology is an important engine of job creation and often plays an important role in startups done by entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneurship and Technology Development course is an elective course in LIDEA’s Louisiana Economic Development Certification Program.

It is intended for members of the Economic Development community at the local, regional or state level, or for anyone interested in learning more about Entrepreneurship and Technology Development in Economic Development, and will cover the following topics:
- What’s the difference between an entrepreneurial firm and a small business?
- How important are entrepreneurial firms to job creation in a local economy?
- What can be done at the State and local level to stimulate entrepreneurial activity?
- What is being done and where in Louisiana (examples), and what can the students learn from existing practices to make improvements in their own work?
- When are business incubators appropriate, and what can be done to develop them?
- How do you finance an entrepreneur or startup small business? What micro-lending programs, SBA programs, venture capital and other financing tools encourage entrepreneurship and small business growth?
- What is Technology Development, and why is new technology an essential element in effective economic development strategies?
Anyone interested in learning more about these issues and questions is encouraged to register.

Full refund given if registration is cancelled before October 11, 2011. Regardless of the refund amount listed, the amount refunded will never exceed the amount paid.

LIDEA offers Economic Development Business Retention and Expansion Course
Economic Development is not just about attracting new business and jobs. It’s also about finding out the needs of a community’s existing businesses and expanding those jobs within your community. The Business Retention and Expansion course is a core course in LIDEA’s Louisiana Economic Development Certification Program, and is intended for members of the Economic Development community at the local, regional or state level, or for anyone interested in learning more about Business Retention in Economic Development.

The Louisiana Real Estate Development and Reuse Course is intended for Economic Development and Chamber professionals, elected officials, business leaders, community volunteers, or anyone interested in learning more about Real Estate development from the Economic Development perspective.

LIDEA Annual Convention
The Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association holds two conferences each year to provide educational opportunities for the membership on a wide range of current economic development topics, and to provide the opportunity for networking among peers. The conferences are held in different areas of the state for the convenience of the attendees, and for the opportunity of the host city to feature its community.
